A Place of His Own

Peek-a-boo is a big thing around here these days. Ethan would play it for hours if I would let him, but ducking your head down and popping up with an excited look on your face is surprisingly exhausting.

It was after an extended game of peek-a-boo that I decided to transform the dining room table into a fort.

It took a little coercing to get him into it. I'm thinking the dining room table is a bit much for a 10 month old. Have you ever walked into a room you loved as a kid and been surprised at how tiny it looks to you as a grown up? I'm thinking a box might be more cozy and comforting.

In the end he loved it just as much as I did when I was little. He explored all the escape routes and finally nestled in to play with his toys in privacy (minus the annoying mommy in the corner with the camera).

There's something about having a space of your own. Time to discover and explore without watching eyes. We all need this. Even our little ones.

It's times like these when I get small glimpses of what Ethan might be like a little boy. The "baby" Ethan has seemed to have flown the coupe. It saddens me to think that it passed so quickly, but as I look at him in his two piece jammies and drinking solely out of big boy sippies I feel excitement of what's to come.

Forts, trucks, imagination, and art time....it's all just around the corner, and I can't wait!

  1. Oh my gosh look how much fun he is having!! Love it! I might just have to try this out with my guy and see if he likes it as much as yours.

Thanks for following my blog :)

  2. Sweet pictures! I love how much he loves it. I might need to try this with my daughter.

  3. This is a great idea! Something for me to consider when it starts getting a little cooler outside and I can "block" some air flow. Right now I need all I can get!

  4. omg what a sweet idea!! i bet he loved it! i need to make something like that for E... she would have a ball!

  5. I love this! We did something similar when W was that old too and he loved playing in something cozy but I don't think realized he was in a "fort." I even got an impressed Dada out of the deal!

  6. I love this! My brother and I used to make forts out of all the couch cushions. With the big sectional we have in the basement, I have a feeling it's only a matter of time before I relive those days! For now, Jamie has taken to playing alone in his room. Seriously, everyday he toodles down the hall and pretty soon I hear the door shut. :( I thought I had a few more years before I saw so many closed doors!

  7. This totally gave me goosebumps! Too cute. Mia is rapidly approaching birthday #2 and I definitely feel that the baby is officially departing, but there is so much to come and I'm looking forward to that :)

  8. So cute! We got Harlan a tent for Christmas last year and she loves to go in there and do her own thing.

Comments make my day! Go ahead...get to typing. I want to hear from you.
