The Blame Game

Isn't it funny how some people can never take responsibility for their actions? They always want to blame someone else.

  • The credit card companies are taking advantage of me! I shouldn't have to payback all this money.
  • But officer, I'm late to work! I don't deserve a ticket.

  • I shouldn't have listened to so-and-so. They made me do it!

  • So-and-so said I said what about you? I would have never said that!

  • I don't know why God did this to me.

I think it's time for people to realize that some things ARE their own fault. Everyone makes mistakes, that's just part of life. People just want to make excuses and to blame someone else for their actions. Guess what though. Blaming someone else and making excuses doesn't solve problems.

Sometimes you have to say "I'm sorry, I screwed up". Sometimes you have to say "I got myself into this problem, now I have to figure a way to solve it". Sometimes you have to say "I was greedy and now it's time to pay for it".

I'm tired of hearing excuses. I'm tired of people blaming other people for the bad things in their life. It's time for people to take responsibility for their own actions and change the things that bother them in their lives.

You have choices on the actions you make and the things that you say. And I feel people should start taking responsibility for those choices and stop placing blame on others for the bad decisions they have made.

On the other hand, sometimes things do just happen to you. You are at the wrong place at the wrong time, you are born into something, something happens to you that is beyond your control. But we do have choices on how we react to it. I feel like those are the toughest choices to make, but if we focus on just what happened to us and ignore the choices we can make to make things better, then nothing gets fixed.

I guess my point is that everyone needs to stop and reassess things in their own lives. Take responsibility, own up to your mistakes, and stop blaming others for your own misfortunes.

  1. You are so right! There's one debt consolidation commercial that always comes on tv where I live, and they start out by saying "Are you overwhelmed by too much credit card debt? It's not your fault!!" And Mr. Darling and I always say, "Yes it is!!" Who else's fault would it be?

  2. Great post! I believe that kind of behavior is learned from parents. Most people I know who blame others for everything grew up around people who blamed the government/the church/the boss for everything.

  3. Girl, I could not agree with you more! I teach and at my school, one of our codes of conduct is: "I am responsible for my actions." It really teaches kids to own up to their mistakes. Now, if only grown men could do so!

  5. truer words were never spoken. I think I needed to read this. sometimes, I feel lazy and its easier to want to blame someone else than to own up. thanks for this.

  6. I think these exact thoughts on a daily basis. Ugh people just get on my nerves, I also love when people insist they have a right to butt into your conversation and when you call them out on it... they weren't doing anything wrong! RIIIGHT! Just trying to prove me wrong to show off in a conversation you weren't even in.

Okay sorry... that was my little rant, It's been an annoying afternoon!

  7. Amen sister. I think personal accountability is so important in life, because it's just so darn easy to blame everyone but yourself when something doesn't go your way. Unfortunately, I know several people with this perpetual problem and they can't get it through their head that no one else is to blame but themselves...grr.

  8. while i totally agree with what you wrote, i have this theory: i think it's just part of being a human, after something's gone wrong/not the way you wanted it to go, to want to retrace your steps, to want to find out how exactly you got to that point. and part of that retracing? it might just be trying to find someone to blame b/c at the moment it makes you feel a little better about the situation you've found yourself in.

or. at least, i know that's what i do sometimes. ;-)
