A Lovely Little Thanksgiving

If you don't already know this...Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday - mainly because all you have to do is maybe some cooking, a lot of eating, and spend time with family (three of my favorite things). This year was a little less crazy than in the past. We had a few less dinners to go to and didn't even have to travel. It was different, but good. My dad smoked a turkey and I made dressing for the first time. Michael's family came up from Louisiana and did some successful deer hunting.

I probably have over more than half of my Christmas shopping done for the season. I bought my wrapping paper and ribbon which all ended up matching my Christmas cards I bought before Halloween. I didn't do any "real" Black Friday shopping (by real I mean the 4AM kind), although I did end up getting some good deals. One of the best deals I got was actually on me and Michael's present to ourselves this year. We are upgrading our crappy camera to the Canon Rebel T1i. I can't be more excited. I actually had to order it from the store, but it will be on my doorstep via free shipping by Wednesday. The only problem is....I have no idea how to work it!

I've also been thinking about what all I have to be thankful for this year. First and foremost, I am thankful for my husband who loves me and works hard to provide for us. I'm thankful that we haven't had to make any major sacrifices even though I have been out of work for this last part of the year.

We are blessed to have such wonderful friends and family who give us wonderful advice and provide great company. I'm also thankful that we get to move closer to a majority of those great folks as well.

We are thankful for and forever indebted to our parents who have so eagerly provided us with a place to stay while we are trying to move even though I know it has turned their "normal" as upside down as it has turned ours.

Most of all, I'm thankful for life and just being blessed enough to experience it and everything it brings with it.

You Should Visit San Francisco!

We are back and had an amazing time in San Francisco. I just can't get over how much I really enjoyed the trip. The food was amazing and there was so much to do there that we didn't even get to it all. We needed at least one more day, but don't you say that with every good trip?
The first day we walked a million miles I swear. We walked through Chinatown and ate breakfast at Mama's (amazing) and then walked to Pier 33 to get on the ferry to Alcatraz. Alcatraz was very interesting and had some really great views. After we got back we went to Fisherman's Wharf and ate at Boudin which had the best Clam Chowder and stopped by to see the sea lions.
After that we headed over to Ghirardelli Square to have the biggest sundae I've ever seen! If you can't tell already, I'm in need of a diet from this trip. After an exhausting day on our feet we headed back to the hotel via the cable car and met up with my college roommate, Amy, for dinner at Osha to try Thai food for the first time.

The next day we rented a Dodge Charger and started our venture to Muir Woods. We crossed the Golden Gate bridge to take some pictures and then headed out to Sausalito for breakfast at Fred's Coffee Shop (also amazing). Finally we arrived at the woods after conquering some very curvy roads!

We were soaked from the wind and rain but continued on our journey to see more of the city with Amy as our tour guide. We saw the Painted Ladies aka the Full House house, Haight-Ashbury, an old bath house and some beautiful cliffs. After returning the car we did a little browsing around at Union Square and ate some great Mexican at Fronterra Grill.

Our last full day was booked with a wine tour. We had about 10 people in our group and went to 5 wineries (Homewood, Artesa, Milat, Cakebread, and Hopper Creek) in both Sonoma and Nappa. The views were wonderful and the wine was delicious. We ended the night by eating at another fabulous Mexican restaurant called Margarita's. Let's just say traveling back the next day was not a lot of fun!

Now I'm off to do some Thanksgiving cooking. I have a lot of blogs to catch up on, but first I need to get settled back in to our new routine (if you can even call it that).

Happy Birthday to My Blog!

I can't believe it. I almost let the whole day go by before remembering it's my bloggy birthday. One year ago today My Thoughts-Uninterrupted was born. To be honest, I never really thought I would keep it up. I thought I was only in need of an outlet during that certain crazy time in my life, but it turns out I need it all the time! Apparently my life just never calmed down!

I have come to find that blogging is therapeutic to me. It's more than just a place to vent, it's really a place to keep a record of my life and my thoughts. I'm notorious for forgetting certain events in my life and this is a great solution to that problem. I've also found a place of support. I have to thank all my readers both old and new who have shown me love and support throughout this experience.

I don't know how to appropriately celebrate a bloggy birthday so I will leave you with 12 posts (one for every month so far) that I feel are my favorites.

  1. Reasons I am Thankful
  2. Our Christmas Tree Adventure
  3. Wanna Get to Know Me in List Form? Click here, here, here, and here
  4. The infamous and somewhat controversial Pantyhose Woes
  5. The previous homeowners of our condo sucked!
  6. I'm sentimental about clothes
  7. Did You Find Me through Google?
  8. A Tribute to My Grandmother
  9. My husband talks in his sleep
  10. Our one year anniversary post
  11. I Always want to Know "Why?"
  12. A letter to myself

Thanks for reading and commenting! I truly appreciate it.

It's All Good

Surprise! I have very uncharacteristically planned a last minute vacation. Yesterday I booked our flight and hotel to San Francisco! Michael had some days left to use before the end of the year and San Francisco seemed like the perfect place to go since one of my college friends currently lives out there. We will be leaving next Wednesday. See, I really meant it when I said last minute!

Everything is slowly sliding into place.

Our counter tops are going to be installed tomorrow and then I can put the last finishing touches on this place and get it listed. We didn't think the counter tops would be in until the first week of December so this is a very pleasant surprise as well.

I'm over my panic of everything being out of control. I've decided to go with the flow. I've realized that the next two months are probably going to be fairly busy, so hopefully I won't have much time to focus on my current limbo status.

I think I am over my reminiscing phase at this point. I will still need to go through my goodbyes with Knoxville, but overall I'm getting to the peace point. Change, even when it's good, is hard for me.

I'm so excited about out little get-a-way. I do still need to plan all the fun stuff. That's where you come in. Any suggestions on what to do while there?

Busy Reminiscing

Strangely enough the thing that I have been wanting most for awhile has arrived and I have not been as ecstatic as I should be. I've been negative about the moving even though it's what I know is best. I finally figured out my problem though. It's not the moving really. It's the going back.

The going back to my hometown is the hard part. Luckily that's not where we are moving F.Y.I - close but not exactly to it. I want to be close to family and friends...I just don't want to be exactly there.

Too many things have changed. I have good memories of school and friends. My high school years are probably my favorite of all so far in life. It's just different going back. It reminds me of things that will never be the same again and it saddens me because I miss it.

This past week I have been organizing some of me and my sisters childhood things at my dads. I found a box of my old clothes from high school and tried them on of course for a few good laughs.

As I was looking into the mirror, I started to realize just how much things had changed. It's not just that people are scattered around everywhere or that we aren't as carefree as we once were. I realized that I had changed - that over the years I have lost some bits and pieces of myself along the way.

I was a pretty solid person in high school. College on the other hand was a different story. I was a complete mess. I think I'm on the path of getting back to the old me now, but as I looked in the mirror while dressed in my ridiculous clothing from the earlier part of this decade I realized a few things.

I've lost a lot of confidence in myself over the last 7 years. Certain events have made me realize that I'm not the invincible person I once saw myself as. I've grown tired of fighting for certain things in my life. In fact, in some ways, I've just grown tired. And, at some point I decided it was better to fade into the background rather than stand out in the crowd.

The past 7 years have been hard and I'm looking forward to a new start. This limbo period is going to be a tough one while I'm still in my hometown though. As you have noticed by now, I have problems with letting go and that seems to be my theme of 2009. This year has been filled with coming to terms with things and my sad attempts at just trying to let them go.

2010 will be a great start. A new decade. A new city. A new way of life.

I just need to get there. I will in due time and it will be great.

Our Long Weekend Update

We are home now and busy trying to figure out just what our new "normal" will be for the next couple of months. Right now, we are bouncing back and forth from one parent to the other and trying to get our "spaces" set up as best as possible. At this point I feel like we are children of divorced parents being thrown back and forth due to custody rules.

I'm kidding, it's not that bad. We just haven't figured out our schedule and what's going to work best for everyone.

I know I'm a little late on the Halloween details, but we had a blast. We didn't dress up, but we did carve pumpkins and watch the UT game.

It was the first time in a long time that I actually had trick-or-treaters to hand out candy to. We saw some really cute ones! Every time we would move I'd always get excited in hopes that we would have some trick-or-treaters and every time, I have been disappointed. I'd always make Michael go outside and ring the doorbell and trick-or-treat me. Sad, huh?

We did some home searching over the weekend as well and I discovered I'm pretty particular this go around. It's going to take a lot of searching to find the perfect one and the perfect neighborhood. We will see what happens though. At this point we aren't in any rush. We have to wait for new counter tops to be put in before we even list our old home so it probably won't even be on the market till December.

I have some book reviews I need to get caught up on this week. And to my total surprise I actually gave in and bought Twilight. I've resisted it for so long, but I decided I'd give it a chance since I'm going to have some more free time on my hands. I probably won't do a book review of it till I finish the series since it's old news to everyone at this point. Hopefully I'll be surprisingly pleased. I'm not usually into that sort of thing.
