It's Time for a Plan

Lately I've been in the mood to do EVERYTHING. I want to dress better, eat better, get back into my hobbies, start a million projects and get organized.

Unfortunately no one told this little guy.

Ahem.

Being a SAHM is sooooooooooo different than I thought it would be. I love it. I do. I just thought I would be Martha Stewart and have dinner cooked every night, try new recipes all the time like I use to, pick up new hobbies, and have time to redecorate the house and man our budget like a champ.

Um.

Hello, my name is Laura and I'm delusional.

I've now determined that being a SAHM is like every thing else in life. It takes practice to get it right. It doesn't just happen. You aren't just NATURALLY great at it.

It's time for me to re-group on some things. I've got to take some time and put some thought into ways to simply certain things around here so that I can do everything I have envisioned and have this house running like a fine tuned machine.

Yes, I still think it can all happen.

Am I still delusional?

I guess we will find out.

Ok, I am off to get us all ready for Ethan's 9 month photo session. Yay for 100 degree weather. Pretty sure we are all going to be a frizzy, shiny, melty mess. Who's ready for fall?

  1. I could have written this post myself. (You've been doing that a lot lately, you know.) I forever have a million things on my brain to do, and how many actually get done in a week, let alone a day? Not as many as I'd like. The list just continues to get longer as the weeks pass, too...sigh...

  2. Oh, sweetie, I feel this way too. I guess it's just a matter of what is important. Do we need to eat? Yes, so it happens. Do we need gourmet? No. So I have to let it go.

  3. I'm not a SAHM, so I can't totally relate, but I will say I had all these hopes and dreams for my Maternity leave. Six weeks off? I had a to-do list a mile long. I was finally going to finish unpacking. Decorate the house. Catch up on scrapbooking. HAHAHAHAHA. Hi my name is Emily and I was also delusional. Most days I was lucky to shower....or brush my teeth.

PS I saw a toliet paper "lock" at Buy Buy Baby the other day and totally thought of all my blogger friends who's babes have recently discovered the joys of unrolling! Jamie tried the other day, but the roll was pretty much gone. I'm hoping this deters him from trying again since it wasn't all that fun the 1st time. (fat chance)

  5. Did you hack into my head??? I so had visions of being this perfect little housewife/SAHM, and I have learned the same lessons as you. I, too, have been doing a lot of soul searching and list making so I don't feel like such a failure.

  7. you're not alone, I thought it would be easier, the house would be cleaner... but it's messier with all the toys, all the extra laundry etc. The "delusional club" has many SAHM's, including me!

  8. You are doing great! It's a tough job to run a household...it takes time and I think it is always changing. One thing at a time! :)

  9. My thoughts exactly! Thanks for sharing and validating the rest of us!

I think the key is to simply enjoy it, whether it's hectic and full of hustle and bustle or a slow day in jammies. We only get these moments with them once!

  11. The last 7months that I've been a SAHM I thought I was going to get about 40 different projects done. I think I got to maybe 10. It's bc the key word in the SAHM is mom. They take priority, and everything else is left in the dust.
Now that I'm working again though, it may take the next decade for the rest of my 30 projects to get done.

  13. ditto, ditto and ditto!
try as i might, i can never get it all done.

i need to get a good system in place for meal planning, cleaning and all the things that need to be done - and stick to it!

great post! always nice to know i'm not in this boat alone! xx

  14. Not a sahm (yet!) but do hope to be one day soon. I do still cling to my delusional hopes that maybe it will get a bit easier to get errands done and cook but at least I know they are delusional, right? :) Regardless of the stage of life, I find for me, it's all about the organization keeping me on track. Anytime less thinking is involved, the better! Thanks for following my blog!
